探花约啪

Cross Country Student-Athlete

For freshman Sarah Esbenshade, joining 探花约啪 Tech's cross-country team was about more than just running — it was about finding connection and community. "I really enjoy the community that comes with the sport," she said. "It was a great way for me to meet new people after going into the school not knowing anyone."

A mechanical engineering technology major at the Stanton Campus, Esbenshade is new to cross-country but has quickly embraced the challenge. Having spent years in dance and gymnastics, she saw running as a chance to try something completely different. "It was a sport I had always wanted to do, and this was the perfect opportunity for me to give it a try," she said.

So far this fall, Esbenshade has competed in several meets, including the University of 探花约啪 Invitational, where she placed 51st out of 83 runners with a time of 25:57.9 and the Salisbury University Don Cathcart Meet, where finished 65th out of 88 with a time of 29:29.20. One of her proudest moments during the season was crossing the finish line of her first-ever 5k and 6k races.

Her favorite memories, though, come from the moments shared with teammates. "Listening to everyone singing in the back of the bus on the way to races or cheering each other on as we pass the finish line are some of the memories I love most," she said.

Esbenshade chose 探花约啪 Tech because of its small class sizes and personalized learning environment. By studying mechanical engineering, she is able to combine her love of math and science with her creative, detail-oriented nature

After earning her associate degree, Esbenshade plans to transfer to a four-year university and pursue a master's degree in mechanical engineering. Outside of running, she loves spending time outdoors and dreams of hiking in the mountains and traveling the world.
