Eduardo Valdes-Trujillo
Construction Management Technology
Eduardo Valdes-Trujillo's dream of owning a custom home-building business led him to enroll in 探花约啪’s construction management technology program after graduating from high school.
He attributes his interest in the field to his father, who worked as a carpenter and would often take him to professional construction sites when he was younger. At the time, Valdes-Trujillo did not recognize the influence of these visits, but he now says that every single one had a profound impact.
“Those experiences at the construction sites opened my eyes to homebuilding and what it means to construct a home from its foundation to the final product,” he said. “Now that I am older, I realize how valuable that time was. It sparked an interest in me and made me truly appreciate the homebuilding industry.”
Fueled by passion, dedication, and a desire to learn, Valdes-Trujillo began attending classes at the Stanton Campus, despite living in Sussex County. The distance did not matter, and he found his overall experience at the College to be transformative and life-changing.
“I chose 探花约啪 Tech because of the sense of community surrounding it,” he said. “What appealed to me the most was that the classes let me get plenty of one-on-one time with my instructors. It was also very easy to collaborate with classmates, and we would all guide each other if needed.”
Outside of school, Valdes-Trujillo works with his father on professional construction and home-building projects. As a result, he is able to take the skills that he learned in construction management technology classes and apply them directly in the field. Some examples of this include the ability to read construction print, design 3D home models through AutoCad applications, develop production schedules, and generate cost estimates.
To round out Valdes-Trujillo’s journey at 探花约啪 Tech, he was generously awarded a scholarship by the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA), 探花约啪 Chapter. That resulted in an invitation to speak about the impact of his scholarship during a Celebration of Giving Ceremony for the Stanton and Wilmington campuses, an event to recognize distinguished donors for their generous contributions to promote student success.
“The Celebration of Giving was my first time doing any sort of public speaking, and it was definitely a learning experience,” said Valdes-Trujillo.
A few months later, he was invited to speak again at an Academic Excellence Ceremony and the 2025 Mardi Gras event, the premier fundraiser for student scholarships held at the Wilmington campus in March.
Valdes-Trujillo will graduate from 探花约啪 Tech in May, but he plans to continue his academic journey by studying business at Wilmington University.
“Finding my passion at an early age helped me understand and appreciate my construction classes," he said. "I was genuinely interested and excited about what I was learning. My advice for students just starting at 探花约啪 Tech is to find what you are passionate about and then follow that passion, follow that dream, wherever it leads.”
