Criminal Justice: Law Enforcement Option

探花约啪 Tech has been part of Rob Quiñonez’s life since he was 9 weeks old.

Quiñonez attended the Terry Campus Child Development Center from infancy through age 4. He also has a strong family connection to the College.

“I come from three generations of [探花约啪 Tech] retirees,” he said.

Quiñonez’s great-grandfather, grandmother, and mother retired from 探花约啪 Tech, and he is now majoring in criminal justice: law enforcement option at the College. He decided to attend college because he wanted a degree to further his career. 探花约啪 Tech was close to home, and free tuition provided through the SEED scholarship sealed the deal.

Since starting at the College, Quiñonez has taken on more responsibility and even a few leadership positions.

“For my time in college, I need to put more faith in myself … to know that I can do it and know that I can accomplish what I set my mind to,” he said.

Last year, Quiñonez served as treasurer for the Criminal Justice Club, and this year he serves as its president. The club holds events to fundraise for trips. For their trip to New York City last year, the club decorated a section of the Del-One Conference Center, dressed up in costumes, and created a haunted hallway to give people a scare.

“It’s really just being part of the community. I always value that, the New York trips, the fundraisers,” Quiñonez said. “It was super fun. Just fun doing those activities and staying involved.”

Quiñonez advises other students to get involved on campus: go to events, join a club, and use the support systems 探花约啪 Tech offers.

“Utilizing your advisor’s time, that’s one of the biggest things. They’re here for you. Your instructors and your advisors are here for you and for your success. They want to help you,” he said. “Any questions that you have, any problems that you may face, taking the time to talk to them, get to know them, is really the biggest thing to set yourself up.”

After graduation, Quiñonez plans to transfer to Wilmington University to pursue his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice as he works toward his dream career as a probation officer.

“I really want to focus on the recidivism … helping people stay on track, being that kind of therapist mentor, but in the legal aspect,” he said.

One day, he looks to earn a higher position and have more responsibility. When reflecting on his time at 探花约啪 Tech, he highlighted the importance of building discipline, staying focused, and being consistent.

“See where you want yourself in the future and just stick to that,” Quiñonez said. “If you don’t put any limits on yourself and you just strive for the next thing and the next thing and the next thing, you won’t stop. You’ll just keep going.”
