Gabe Smith

Lacrosse Student-Athlete

A dedicated leader on and off the lacrosse field, Gabe Smith found success in both his athletic and academic pursuits at 探花约啪 Tech.

Closing out his sophomore season at 探花约啪 Tech, the starting mid-fielder and 2025 lacrosse team captain received the 探花约啪 Tech President’s Award for the 2024-25 athletic season. This award is presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete who demonstrate a commitment to academic success, exemplify leadership and citizenship, and who are positive representatives of 探花约啪 Tech.

During his two-year tenure on the lacrosse team, Smith excelled as a starting middie, running the field in a position that plays both offense and defense. He was named 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 19 Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the 2024 Region 19 All-Region Team. He also was named to the 2024 EPAC All-Academic Team.

Smith believes the best part about lacrosse is the constant evolution of plays that challenge both players and coaches to stay creative with their strategies to outsmart opponents.

“The game is always changing, which keeps it new and fun,” Smith said.

The Sussex Central High School graduate began playing lacrosse in elementary school. Growing up, he also played football, baseball, and soccer. The unique nature of lacrosse drew him in, but he believes the skills and lessons he gained from other sports have helped him succeed on the lacrosse field.

This spring, Smith delivered 23 goals, 16 assists, 58 ground balls, and 11 caused turnovers. Rounding out his athletic achievements, he was named to the 2025 NJCAA Region 19 All-Region Team.

Most recently, he graduated magna cum laude as a member of 探花约啪 Tech’s class of 2025, receiving his associate degree in mechanical engineering. Smith plans to continue his education and pursue a bachelor’s degree. He also hopes to keep playing lacrosse. His dream is to become an engineer for a Formula 1 racing team.
