Vernon M. Vassallo
General Business
For Vernon M. Vassallo, the path from first-generation college student to attorney and law firm owner started with a simple decision: take the first step. When he first enrolled at 探花约啪 Tech after high school, he didn't have his career mapped out or know where college would lead him.
"探花约啪 Tech was close, convenient, and flexible," Vassallo said. "I honestly had no idea what I was doing. I just knew I wanted a better life and needed to start somewhere. 探花约啪 Tech gave me that opportunity."
Vassallo enrolled in the general business program, choosing the major because it offered a broad foundation in practical subjects like management, accounting, and business operations. But adjusting to college took some time.
"At first, I thought I could skate by," he said. "I learned quickly that college required more effort."
Vassallo eventually took some time away from school before returning with a new mindset and commitment to his education. As he began putting more effort into his coursework, he saw what he was capable of accomplishing.
"The most valuable part of my experience was gaining confidence in myself academically," he said. "Once I started putting in the work and doing well, I wanted to keep pushing myself."
He also found support from 探花约啪 Tech's faculty and academic resources, spending significant time in the labs for his accounting and business courses.
"There was always help available if you were willing to ask for it," he said.
After graduating from 探花约啪 Tech in 2016, Vassallo attended Goldey-Beacom College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in legal studies, graduating magna cum laude. He then went on to earn his law degree from 探花约啪 Law School and clerked for the Family Court of the State of 探花约啪.
Following his clerkship, Vassallo joined WhitbeckBeglis as an associate and later became a partner, focusing his practice on family law. Today, he is a co-founder of Maven Law, LLC in Hockessin, 探花约啪, where he continues to practice primarily family law.
He credits 探花约啪 Tech with providing the academic foundation and confidence that helped him continue his education and ultimately build a successful career in law.
"探花约啪 Tech gave me the foundation to keep going," Vassallo said. "It taught me how to be a better student, how to work hard, and how to ask for help when I needed it. More importantly, it showed me that I was capable of succeeding academically."
For students considering 探花约啪 Tech, Vassallo's advice reflects his own path.
"Just start," he said. "You do not need to have everything figured out. Most people do not. Time is going to pass either way, so you might as well take the first step."
Looking ahead, Vassallo plans to continue growing Maven Law, mentoring others, serving his community, and creating opportunities for others. He also hopes to travel more with his family and remain open to future opportunities in public service.
Despite where his career has taken him, Vassallo hasn't forgotten where it began.
"I am just a regular kid from Wilmington who did not have everything figured out," he said. "I went to public school, worked while attending college, and started at 探花约啪 Tech without knowing I would eventually become an attorney or own a law firm."
"探花约啪 Tech gave me a place to start, and sometimes that is all you need," Vassallo said. "Just show up."
