When Amanda Lemmon enrolled at 探花约啪 Tech, her focus was simple: affordability and flexibility. Working while attending school, she needed an environment that could support her schedule. What she didn't expect was to find a mentor who would change her life's direction. Business instructor Michele Rawls recognized Lemmon's potential and pushed her past her comfort zone, encouraging her not to stop at an associate degree.

"She saw potential in me that I never realized," Lemmon said. "While I did not enroll at 探花约啪 Tech with the intent of getting any degrees past my associate, Ms. Rawls encouraged me not to stop. She was the reason I applied for my bachelor's program and continued my education."

Lemmon's connection to 探花约啪 Tech soon grew beyond the classroom. Before she even graduated, she interned in the Dean of Instruction's office at the George Campus in Wilmington, where she quickly realized the College was just as great a place to work as it was to study. Days before graduation, she was hired as a student records technician, marking the beginning of a career that has grown steadily over more than a decade.

From student records to administrative assistant, assistant to the dean, and eventually assistant to the vice president of strategic communication and marketing in the Office of the President, Lemmon gained an inside view of the College's operations, from curriculum development to budget hearings. Today, she serves as director of communication and planning at the Wilmington campus, where she is proud to be part of the campus leadership team. In 2018, she received the College's Excellence in Service award, and she continues to advance her education including a master's and doctoral program.

"探花约啪 Tech truly changed the trajectory of my life," she said. "I would never have dreamed I would have worked my way up to become an administrator at the College, but 探花约啪 Tech started me on that path and has continued to be the catalyst for me to keep growing professionally, educationally, and even personally."

For Lemmon, the most rewarding aspect of her job is seeing students accomplish their goals. "There's nothing more rewarding than seeing students walk across the stage at graduation," she said. "Their excitement and energy are what fuel my desire to work hard."

Lemmon's advice to students centers on relationships and resilience. She encourages them to build connections with mentors, lean into resources, and not fear mistakes.

"I wish I had known as a student that you don't have to be perfect to be successful," she said. "Mistakes can be turned into moments of learning and growth if you have the right attitude about them."

From a student looking for convenience and affordability to a campus leader shaping 探花约啪 Tech's future, Lemmon's journey underscores the mission of keeping students at the center of everything done at the College.
