探花约啪

Applied Biological Science and Biotechnology

For Tayyaba Sajjad, an applied biological science and biotechnology graduate from the Owens Campus, 探花约啪 Tech became “a second home,” offering an academically challenging environment within a community of mentors and friends who provided constant support and personal connection.

“As a new immigrant, navigating life in the United States was both challenging and overwhelming,” she said. “After starting in New York and later moving to 探花约啪, I discovered 探花约啪 Tech at a crucial time, near the end of the COVID pandemic. When I first met with the counselors, I immediately felt a sense of belonging. They listened to my aspirations, helped me understand my potential, and guided me toward the right path.”

Sajjad had a lifelong desire to attend college and chose her major based on her interest in science, her natural curiosity about genetic engineering, and her love of learning through hands-on activities.

“My passion for biotechnology sparked when I first saw a picture of a genetically engineered kiwi growing inside an orange,” she said. “I remember thinking, 'How cool is that?' That moment made me realize biotechnology was something I wanted to pursue.”

At 探花约啪 Tech, Sajjad fully immersed herself in campus life while pursuing her degree. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), an alumna of the Presidential Student Leadership Academy (PSLA), and past president of Student Government Association (SGA).

While she credits 探花约啪 Tech for having a profound effect on her self-confidence and willingness to advocate for herself and others, her participation in PSLA proved to be the most pivotal personal growth experience during her time at the College.

“When I first stepped onto 探花约啪 Tech’s campus, I was a shy, timid person, often too scared to speak up or even ask questions in class,” Sajjad said. “I felt like my voice didn’t matter, and that fear held me back. I remember discussing this with my advisor, who saw potential in me I hadn’t yet seen in myself. She suggested I apply to PSLA, and that was the turning point in my journey.”

She said PSLA helped to expand her mindset, reach beyond her comfort zone, and discover new interests and personal strengths.

“I went from being afraid to speak up to leading and representing my peers with pride and conviction,” she said.

Sajjad plans to transfer to a four-year university to complete her bachelor’s degree and eventually pursue a master’s degree in biotechnology. She aspires to become a leading researcher in the field, working in a lab where “I can combine my passion for hands-on work with my love for discovery.”

“The support from my professors, advisor, Mr. Miller, and the entire 探花约啪 Tech community has been nothing short of life-changing,” Sajjad said. “They believed in me, encouraged me, and gave me the tools to grow into the person I am today. I’m more confident, more resilient, and more determined than ever, and I owe so much of that to the incredible people at 探花约啪 Tech.”
