Learn more about her in the Q&A below.

Q: Can you share your journey to becoming a faculty member at 探花约啪 Tech?

"My journey with 探花约啪 Tech began in 2013 as a histotechnician adjunct instructor while continuing my work in the laboratory. In 2014, I transitioned into a full-time role as program coordinator for the Histotechnician Program at 探花约啪 Tech and was then appointed department chair in 2020."

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at 探花约啪 Tech? What do you find most rewarding about teaching at 探花约啪 Tech?

"My favorite thing about working at 探花约啪 Tech is the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' lives while working alongside dedicated colleagues who share a commitment to student success. The most rewarding aspect of teaching is watching students grow in confidence and skill as they progress through the program."

Q: How would you describe your teaching philosophy?

"My teaching philosophy is centered on hands-on learning for student success, engagement, and the development of real-world skills. I believe that students learn best when they are actively involved in the learning process and can connect classroom concepts to practical applications. In a hands-on field such as histology, I emphasize both technical competence and professional growth, ensuring that students graduate with the knowledge and skills needed for their careers."

Q: Are you currently involved in any research or special projects? If so, how do you integrate them into your teaching?

"One aspect of my teaching that I value greatly is creating interprofessional learning experiences with other 探花约啪 Tech healthcare programs. By collaborating with students and faculty from other disciplines, students gain a broader understanding of the healthcare team and the important role they play in patient care."

Q: What challenges have you faced in your career, and how have you overcome them?

"One of the greatest challenges in my career has been transitioning from being a practicing histotechnician to an educator. Moving from the laboratory into teaching and program administration required me to develop new skills in curriculum design, student mentorship, accreditation, and leadership. My experiences in these roles have strengthened my ability to adapt, problem-solve, and lead with compassion while maintaining a commitment to academic excellence and student success."

Q: Can you share a significant achievement or milestone in your professional journey?

"A significant milestone in my professional journey has been returning to the program where my own career began and ultimately serving as department chair of the histotechnician program. After graduating from 探花约啪 Tech's histotechnician program in 2008 and gaining valuable industry experience in the histology laboratory at Christiana Care, I joined 探花约啪 Tech as an adjunct instructor in 2013, became program coordinator in 2014, and was appointed department chair in 2020. This progression has allowed me to contribute to the program from multiple perspectives — as a graduate, healthcare professional, educator, and leader. Equally rewarding has been helping the program maintain high educational and accreditation standards while preparing students for successful careers in histotechnology."

Q: What are your interests or hobbies outside of the College?

"Outside of 探花约啪 Tech, I enjoy spending time with my family and staying actively involved in my children's activities and events. Family is very important to me, and I value the opportunity to create lasting memories through travel, sports, and time together."

Q: What advice would you give to students pursuing a career in your field?

"My advice to students pursuing a career in histotechnology is to be curious, detail-oriented, and committed to lifelong learning. Histotechnicians play a critical role in patient care by ensuring that tissue specimens are prepared accurately for diagnosis, so precision and professionalism are essential. Take advantage of every opportunity to gain hands-on experience, ask questions, and learn from faculty and clinical instructors. Be open to feedback, embrace challenges as learning opportunities, and remember that confidence develops through practice and perseverance. Most importantly, understand that the work you do behind the scenes has a direct impact on patient outcomes, making histotechnology a highly rewarding and meaningful profession."

Q: Is there a particular experience or lesson that has profoundly impacted your teaching or outlook on education?

"One experience that has profoundly shaped my outlook on education is being both a graduate of the histotechnician program and later returning to teach and lead the same program. Having experienced firsthand the impact that dedicated faculty, mentorship, and hands-on learning can have on a student's career, I understand the importance of creating meaningful learning opportunities and supporting students throughout their educational journey."

Q: What's something people may not know about you?

"One thing people may not know about me is that I am a graduate of 探花约啪 Tech's histotechnician program and have had the unique opportunity to experience the program from multiple perspectives. This journey has given me a deep appreciation for the transformative impact of education and the importance of mentorship."

Q: What are your future goals?

"My future goals are centered on continuing to strengthen and advance the histotechnician program while supporting student success and workforce development. Ultimately, my goal is to continue making a positive impact on students, the profession of histotechnology, and the communities our graduates will serve throughout their careers."
