Women's Basketball Team Ends Season as Region Tournament Qualifiers

For the first time in four years, a women's basketball season was completed at 探花约啪 Tech. And, it wasn't just any season. It was a season good enough for the team to earn a spot in the 2022 NJCAA Region 19 Championship Tournament.

"Qualifying for the region tournament was a blessing for this team and this program," Head Coach Megan Fox said. "I believe this allowed the team to earn some respect in the Region 19 conference. I also believe it builds tremendous confidence going into the 2022-23 basketball season."

While 探花约啪 Tech lost in the opening round of the tournament, the season provided a ton of positives for the team to build from. The team finished with a 9-9 record while playing most of the season with just six players.

Daqira Lancaster-Navarro and Melena Credle were double-double machines throughout the season. Lancaster-Navarro finished 3rd in the nation and 2nd in the region in points per game (24.5), and second in the nation and second in the region in rebounding per game (14.1). Credle finished 10th in the nation and 7th in the region in points per game (21.4), and 5th in the nation and 3rd in the region in rebounds per game (13.1). Meanwhile, Sierra Smith finished 10th in the nation and 2nd in the region in assists per game (5.5).

Also, Lancaster-Navarro was named Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Week twice throughout the season.

"The growth shown from the team from the beginning to end of the season was remarkable," Fox said. "I believe it starts with their dedication and commitment to the program. It was extremely challenging at times to play an entire season with six players. However, the ladies stuck together and focused on their goal of competing and completing the first season in four years."

Now the hard work starts as Fox and her coaching staff will look to build upon what they started this season. The returning players will need to continue to improve, and they will need to recruit depth to increase roster numbers.

"For the team to improve next season, it is imperative for us to get right back to work after a short rest," Fox said. "We plan to begin post season workouts in March, play in summer leagues, and just continue growing the 探花约啪 Tech women's basketball program by bringing in local talent to join our basketball family.

"We are looking forward to a productive offseason."
