Run, White, & Blue Draws Nearly 600 Participants in Support of Student Scholarships

The 12th annual Run, White, & Blue 5k run/1-mile walk, held Sept. 4 on the 探花约啪 Owens Campus in Georgetown, drew 568 runners and walkers and helped raise funds to support scholarships for veterans and first responders. Gross proceeds from the event, including gift-in-kind donations, was nearly $49,000.
A family-friendly event, the post-race celebration featured live music from 2 Six Strings, numerous games and activities, and a wide variety of food, including barbecue chicken donated by Mountaire Farms and cooked by the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company, ice cream from Vanderwende Farm Creamery, pizza, beer from Big Oyster Brewery, and additional items from Irish Eyes, Lighthouse Catering, and Mission BBQ.
In support of the event, more than 100 volunteers assisted with logistics for registration, provided race course directions, staffed on-course water stations, served food, and cleaned up throughout the evening and once the festivities concluded. Volunteers included 探花约啪 Tech employees and their spouses and children; current students, including players from the softball and baseball teams, the education club, occupational therapy assistant club, and physical assistant club; alumni; retirees; and members of the Army National Guard and Air Force Reserves.
The race is popular among local cross country programs, and this year’s field included runners from the teams at 探花约啪 Tech, Sussex Academy, Sussex Tech High School, Woodbridge High School, and Selbyville Middle School.
