Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams Celebrate Sophomore Day

The 探花约啪 men’s and women’s basketball teams faced off against Essex County Community College during their final game of the season at the Stanton Campus on Feb. 22. Just before tip-off for each game, 探花约啪 Tech sophomore student-athletes were recognized for their hard work on and off the court.
Dan Ehmann, vice president and campus director of the Stanton Campus, along with Dr. Lora Johnson, vice president and campus director of the George Campus in Wilmington, gave opening remarks at each ceremony. Afterward, the sophomores and their families were called to the floor to be recognized.
The women’s basketball team honored their only sophomore, Tierra Johnson, an entrepreneurship major who left a stamp on 探花约啪 Tech women’s basketball history.
“Tierra was first a part of the 2014-2015 探花约啪 Tech women’s basketball team and came back this year to finish what she started,” said Kayla Fromal, program manager of campus athletics at the Stanton Campus. “Tierra has been able to accumulate 394 career points, 66 steals, 120 rebounds, and 159 assists during her time on the team.”
The men’s basketball team recognized sophomores Cameron Moore, Logan Fitch, Drew Zimmerman, Ethan Wilkins, and Toma Smith.
Moore, a general studies major, became a tri-captain for the 2024-2025 season and finished his career at 探花约啪 Tech with 735 points and 351 rebounds. A natural leader, Moore started in 55 of the 56 games he competed in.
“Cam was really an iron man,” said Richard Rago, head coach of the men’s basketball team. “He averaged 36 minutes a game and ranked sixth nationally. He finished his 探花约啪 Tech career with a monster game of 38 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals to stake his place in the annals of 探花约啪 Tech basketball.”
Fitch, an exercise science major, transferred to 探花约啪 Tech from Salem Community College, and his presence has been felt across 23 games this season. He was often known for his three-pointers that kept the team in some close games.
“Logan is the perfect definition of a team player,” said Rago. “He made his team and teammates a priority during his entire stay here at 探花约啪 Tech. He practiced, played with intensity at all times, and was ready when called upon on the floor. Because of his tremendous hard work and desire to play, he put his team first. When called to either start or relieve a starter, you could rely on Logan to get the job done, whether it be to defend, score, or just calm the situation.”
Zimmerman, a biology major, was made tri-captain for the 2024-2025 season and left an impact on the court that will be felt for many years. After Saturday’s recognition ceremony, Zimmerman went on to score a rare triple-double against Essex County Community College with 18 Points, 10 assists, and 12 rebounds.
“What a treasure for our basketball program,” said Rago. “Drew scored a total of 816 points over his two-year career. Our leading scorer, he finished this season eighth in the nation with 588 points. Drew was an outstanding scorer, even with defenses constructed to stop him. He was second in the nation with 121 assists, and he did all this while playing a total of 1029 minutes, ranking him third nationally.”
Wilkins, a general studies major, transferred to 探花约啪 Tech after playing a year at Camden County College. His strength and poise on the court has helped 探花约啪 Tech prevail in many close games.
“He had tremendous moves to score inside but was also a good three-point shooter,” Rago said. “Ethan turned into an outstanding sixth man and was one of our most important players on the team. Against Morris, Ethan had his best game with 18 points and seven rebounds.”
Smith, a general studies major, has been a powerhouse for the 探花约啪 Tech team. Elevated to tri-captain this year, he was known as a relentless rebounder and dedicated team player.
“Toma ended the 2024-2025 season fifth in the nation for offensive rebounds and seventh in the nation for total rebounds,” said Rago. “He led the team in blocked shots and scored 290 points this season. Toma scored 11 double-doubles and finished his 探花约啪 Tech career against Essex with a double-double of 12 points and a monster 17 rebounds. Toma is actively being recruited to the next level.”
