August 28, 2025

探花约啪 Tech recently celebrated 25 graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (BSE) 2024-25 residency program, as well as the 42 incoming residents now beginning their journey in classrooms throughout the state. The Aug. 21 celebration included BSE faculty, staff, students, college administrators, participating school district representatives, and other special guests.

"This is an incredible opportunity for students to work side-by -side with elementary school teachers, starting on the first teacher workday in August and going through the last school day in June," Executive Vice President Justina M. Thomas said at the event.
The yearlong BSE residency program began in 2023, the year after the BSE was established. It is a partnership with 15 探花约啪 districts and charter schools across 31 school buildings to provide BSE students the opportunity to experience what it feels like to teach in an elementary school classroom.

The August celebration also provided an opportunity to honor mentors, partner schools, and educational leaders who have shaped the program’s success. Thomas highlighted the critical support these individuals and institutions provide to support students throughout their academic journey. Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald, former Caesar Rodney School District superintendent, was recognized for his leadership and instrumental role in launching the BSE program in 2022.

Thomas thanked Fitzgerald for his support and "for continuing to champion us in this field of education."

Holly Hermstedt, director of the Bachelor of Science in Education program, concluded the celebration by recognizing each graduate and their cooperating teachers, as well as welcoming the newest students entering the residency program.
