探花约啪 Tech and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield 探花约啪 Cut Ribbon on New Healthcare Center of Excellence
September 3, 2024
Leaders from 探花约啪 and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield 探花约啪 (Highmark 探花约啪) joined with state officials and members of the College’s Board of Trustees to cut the ribbon on the new Highmark Healthcare Center of Excellence at the Charles L. Terry Jr. Campus in Dover.
The $3.4 million renovation of the 8,700-square-foot facility began in August 2020, and final touches to the façade of the 49-year-old building were completed this year. The project cost includes $1 million from Highmark 探花约啪’s BluePrints for the Community grant program, which helped fund a number of projects and initiatives, such as laboratory equipment upgrades, technology enhancements, a scholarship for allied health programs, establishment of a student support fund, and beautification of the building's exterior.
“The state-of-the-art classrooms and labs in this new center will be used to train students for allied health careers to meet some of the highest demand labor market needs in 探花约啪,” 探花约啪 Tech President Mark T. Brainard said at the Sept. 3 ribbon-cutting event. “We are grateful to Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield 探花约啪 for this generous donation and continued support of the College and our mission.”
The Highmark Healthcare Center of Excellence is housed in a building on the Terry Campus that is highly visible from U.S. 13, and which now displays the Highmark name, along with digital signage that promotes the center, as well as other College programs and events.
“Collaboration between Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield 探花约啪 and 探花约啪 Tech spans many years and a variety of ways as we have collectively taken action to address workforce needs within the constantly changing health industry,” said Nick Moriello, president of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield 探花约啪. “We are excited for the next phase of this exciting investment with the College, which is part of Highmark’s longstanding commitment to the healthcare workforce in 探花约啪, totaling more than $10 million since 2007.”
The Highmark Healthcare Center of Excellence will include training for short-term certification programs in allied health, including:
- Certified Central Service Technician Training (Sterile Processing)
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
- Certified EKG Technician
- Certified Hemodialysis Technician
- Certified Medical Administrative Assistant
- Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate Program
- Certified Pharmacy Technician
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician
- Dental Assistant
- Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Certification Course
- Patient Care Assistant
Students who earn these certifications can help to address the needs of their fellow 探花约啪ans, especially as the state’s population ages and chronic health conditions become more prevalent.
Bridget Latta, a graduate of the certified clinical medical assistant with phlebotomy program, described her 探花约啪 Tech experience for the attendees at the ribbon-cutting event, saying she learned everything she needed to know to prepare for her current job at ChristianaCare Cardiology. She also said the time she spent away from her son taking classes will now help her better provide for him and her family.
“I am very proud to be a 探花约啪 Tech graduate,” she said. “My life has completely changed. I have 探花约啪 Tech to thank for training me for a second career and support during the application process. I enjoy being a medical assistant and intend to have a long career.”

Graduate Bridget Latta spoke at the Sept. 3 ribbon-cutting to share her experience as a student in the certified clinical medical assistant program.
